The Bar Council is the decision-making body of the lawyers' organization, overseeing the defense of material and moral interests of the profession, and performing administrative, financial, and disciplinary functions under the supervision and presidency of the Dean.
It is responsible for, among other things:
- Ensuring respect for principles of integrity, impartiality, moderation, and proper conduct with colleagues, which are the fundamental pillars of the legal profession.
- Referring lawyers who commit professional errors affecting the ethics of the profession to the Disciplinary Council.
- Managing and administering the properties of the lawyers' organization, and handling its finances, including borrowing.
- Deciding on the admission of candidates for internships, registering lawyers, organizing their ranks, and handling their omissions and removals.
- Ensuring continuous training for lawyers.
- Monitoring the adherence of trainee lawyers to internship exercises and their professional training.
- Ensuring that lawyers attend sessions at scheduled times and adhere to conduct expected of faithful servants of justice.
The Bar Council, within its assigned tasks, makes decisions that must be justified and communicated to the General Assembly at its first meeting, and are recorded in a special register available to the lawyers.
